It should be noted that this is a guideline – if students learn steps and

Ceili dances as well. These are all
soft shoe dances and Gillies will be required after the first month of class.
Gillies may be ordered through Sheri or online through vendors. Note that Irish and Scottish Gillies are different styles –
dancers should purchase Irish Gillies. Hardshoes
are not typically started until the second year.
Soft Shoe Dances: Jig, Reel and Slip
Jig
Hard Shoe Dances: Hornpipe and Treble
Jig
These are all solo dances.
Each type danced to specific music based on the notes per bar i.e.
Jig’s and Treble Jig’s are 6/8 time, Reels and Hornpipes 4/4 time, and Slip
Jig’s 9/8 time.
Ceili
are group dances. They may be
danced with 4, 6, 8, 16 or any number of dancers or couples depending on the
specific Ceili. Some are simple and
some are complicated.
